Next Stop: Countryside COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Countryside is 'on the road again'! As a key Illinois City located along the historic Route 66, Countryside will host a community meeting for a new project seeking to make a big impact on the future of one of the most infamous roads in America.
The Illinois Route 66 Heritage Project, a state initiative promoting economic opportunities for the communities along Illinois Route 66 by preserving its sacred heritage and increasing cultural tourism, will arrive in Countryside this Thursday, October 23. During the meeting, Executive Director of the Illinois Route 66 Heritage Project Patti Ambrose will present the findings of a study that will guide the development of Illinois Route 66 in the future.
"This plan gives us the tools we need to encourage more visitors to travel our road, stop in our communities, spend more time-and money-and help us grow our economy," said Executive Director of the Illinois Route 66 Heritage Project Patti Ambrose. "It's basic economic development using tourism as the catalyst."
Countryside is no stranger to appreciation for the sacred road as a number of Countryside businesses fly Route 66 flags to signify their support while Route 66 flags are also available for purchase at City Hall.
"The City of Countryside is pleased to be selected as one of the host sites for the presentation of Illinois Historic Route 66 Interpretive Master Plan," said Mayor Robert Conrad. "The City is and will continue to do its part to promote the rich history of Route 66."
Community residents are encouraged to attend the Illinois Historic Route 66 Interpretive Master Plan community meeting this Thursday at 2 p.m. in the City Hall Conference Room (5550 East Avenue). Before hosting the meeting in Countryside, the Illinois Route 66 Heritage Project will make an appearance in Joliet.
