A Countryside Boost COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - City of Countryside residents will soon enjoy new handicapped ramps and local road improvements thanks to federal grants totaling $75,000, Mayor Robert Conrad announced.
Countryside will use $35,000 to build handicap-accessible sidewalk ramps north of Joliet Road between East Avenue and LaGrange Road in Ward 1. Ramp construction will be completed by the end of September, giving residents a chance to enjoy greater sidewalk accessibility this fall. The dollars are 2007 federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds.
Countryside also will use $40,000 for road improvements in Ward 2 south of the Stevenson Expressway. Projected to be complete by the summer of 2009, the road improvements will include pothole patching and resurfacing. These dollars are 2008 CDBG funds.
"These funds will help improve and beautify our City streets," Conrad said. "Whether it is a large beautification project such as LaGrange Road or Ward projects such as these, Countryside continues to make improvements throughout our City for residents and visitors to enjoy."
City residents can expect an overall improved transportation system that better serves everyone, the mayor said.
"We appreciate these funds and know they will improve the quality of life of our citizens" said Dudley Onderdonk, Community Development Director for Countryside. "We look forward to providing better accessibility for our handicapped residents and seniors as well as the benefits of better roads in Countryside."
