Dining with the Mayor!

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - The warm summer night of July 24 was no ordinary night for Countryside residents Anita and Chris Puskar after winning Countryside's Concert in the Park raffle prize.

After attending the live band performance of Maggie Speaks, the couple won the chance to dine with Mayor Robert Conrad and his wife Pam on Saturday, Sept. 6.

"We were extremely happy to join the Mayor for dinner," said Anita. "We always see him at all of Countryside's events, but never got the chance to have a true conversation with him. It was interesting to hear plans that the Mayor has for the future of Countryside. It was also great to hear some other interesting things about him, such as his life stories and a little more about his family."

Anita and Chris agreed on their restaurant of choice: the Flame Steak House, 803 Joliet Road, in Countryside.

"The Flame always has a high traffic of customers going back and forth, and we were curious to experience what the buzz was all about," said Anita Puskar.

The Flame is a staple of Countryside's fine dining. A family-owned steakhouse, it has been in Countryside for more than 49 years and is known for its cuisine, service, wine list and inviting atmosphere.

"It is always a pleasure to get to know members of the community," said Mayor Conrad. "It gives me a chance to gain a better understanding of the types of people that live in Countryside, as well as to get ideas on the changes that the community would like to see in Countryside."

The Puskars are accustomed to attending Countryside's entire Road to Route 66 Special Events.

"Our first event was attending the Christmas Holiday Party, which we received an invitation to shortly after we moved to Countryside. Ever since then we have been to almost every event. Coincidently, Concerts in the Park are our favorite events to attend," Puskar said.

Anita and Chris have been married for 15 years. They have four children and moved from Chicago to Countryside five years ago. At the time, the two were looking for a great location for their Dollar Store business, which they no longer own.

"Countryside was the perfect choice. Not only did we have a much larger yard for our living space, but Countryside also made it easy to get the ball rolling for our business," said Puskar. "It was the best move of my life. The atmosphere in Countryside is very friendly and safe; we plan on staying here for the rest of our lives."
