Time to play!

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Just in time for summer, the City of Countryside opened the renovated Brancato Park and honored the Countryside soldier, John H. Brancato Jr., for who it is named.

Countryside officials, the Brancato family and nearby residents gathered on June 6 to rededicate and open the renovated Brancato Park at Plainfield Road and Ashland Avenue. The park was originally dedicated on July 4, 1972 to Brancato who lost his life in the service of his country in Viet Nam.

"We are pleased to be able to rededicate this park to John Brancato and the Brancato family," said Mayor Robert Conrad. "It was an honor to have his family join us on this special day. This park is a tribute to all of our servicemen and women."

The park improvements include new playground equipment, safety surface, benches, picnic tables and landscaping. The park is also handicap accessible, a standard for all renovated parks but also a personal request made by an area resident to Mayor Conrad.

"This park is an important part of our community and this neighborhood in particular," he said. "I am thrilled we were able to update it and give our residents a nice place to bring their children and enjoy our City. Our parks provide a wonderful setting for families and neighbors to congregate on their streets."

Countryside continues to upgrade and improve our City parks. Work is being completed at Woodland Ridge and improvements are expected to be made at Hollands Park. The City owns and/or maintains the following recreational areas: Countryside Park, Ideal School Park, Srejma-Michalek Park, Brancato Park, Hollands Park, City Park, Woodland Ridge Park and Memorial Park. The City, along with Pleasantdale Park District, also owns Flagg Creek Golf Course, a beautiful nine-hole golf course on Joliet Road.
