Countryside announces 2008 special events Mayor Robert Conrad and the Countryside City Council are pleased to announce the newest leg in the City's marketing plan - Road to Route 66 - a series of 17 special events from May through December designed to provide family fun and entertainment while promoting the City's diverse business community including its auto dealers, hotels, restaurants and retailers.
The 2008 line-up presented by Vulcan Materials Company includes the ever popular Concerts in the Park series, Movies in the Park series, Antique Classic Custom Car and Cycle Show and Children's Halloween and Christmas parties. Also, back this year is Harvest Fest and the Christmas Tree Lighting Festival. Other sponsors include AT&T, Cardinal Fitness, Suburban Life and Lyons Township.

Concerts in the Park
Grab a blanket and head to the park for a fun evening of music. Hungry for a bite? A food vendor will be at all concerts. Countryside Park, the City's largest, offers an ideal setting for relaxing on a summer night, catching up with family, friends and neighbors and enjoying the free music.
All concerts are held at 7 p.m. on Thursdays (rain or shine) at Countryside Park located at 61st Street, 1/2 block east of Brainard Avenue. (click for map/directions) June 5 - Route 66: Route 66 will take you on a musical journey through the decades from nostalgic Swing to contemporary Rock'n Roll. Food vendor (6/26): Kenny's Irish Pub - Pulled Pork with chips $4.00, Hot Dogs with chips $2.00, Chips $1.00 July 3 - Banjo Buddies: Chicago's top, nationally recognized Dixieland jazz band has entertained audiences across the country with their unique, eclectic style of Dixie and music and entertainment for over two decades.

July 10 - Live Band Karaoke: Combining the silly fun of karaoke with the energy of a live rock band. Live band karaoke allows anyone to fulfill their rock and roll fantasy. Movies under the stars...nothing beats a free outdoor movie! Grab a blanket and enjoy a family favorite. Come early, grab a front row seat and enjoy some time on the playground before the show. This year's movies are sure to be a hit with the entire family!

Aug. 1 - Happy Feet: Won best animated feature film of the year (Rain date: Aug. 4, 2008) A comedy adventure set in the land of the Emperor Penguins in the heart of Antarctica. These penguins sing, and each needs their own special song to attract a soul mate. Our hero Mumble son of Elvis and Norma Jean is the worst singer in the world... but he can tap-dance something fierce!
Aug. 8 - Wizard of Oz: Nominated for best motion picture of the year (Rain date: August 11, 2008) In this charming film based on the popular L.Frank Baum stories, Dorothy and her dog Toto are caught in a tornado's path and somehow end up in the land of Oz. Here she meets some memorable friends and foes in her journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who everyone says can help her return home and possibly grant her new friends their goals of a brain, heart and courage.
Aug. 15 - Surf's Up: Nominated for best animated feature film of the year (Rain date: August 18, 2008) Come join Cody, a Rockhopper penguin, as he journeys from his home in Shiverpool, Antarctica, to take part in the Big Z Memorial Surf-Off on the beach of Pen Gu Island. During his adventure he meets some new friends, including surf nut Chicken Joe and the spirited lifeguard Lani. Cody believes that winning is everything until he meets The Geek, an old washed-up pro-surfer, who may just show Cody that a true winner isn't always the one who comes in first.
Aug. 22 - Ratatouille: Won best animated feature film of the year (Rain date: August 25, 2008) In one of Paris' finest restaurants, Remy, a determined young rat, dreams of becoming a renowned French chef. Torn between his family's wishes and his true calling, Remy and his pal Linguini set in motion a hilarious chain of events that turns the City of Lights upside down. Harvest Fest
Saturday, Oct. 4: Noon to 5 p.m. Get ready for fall at Harvest Fest! Before the weather starts to turn cold, enjoy the day with friends and family at Harvest Fest where you can pick out your pumpkin or take a hay ride. The popular event will include fall arts and crafts for children, pumpkin carving, costume contest, dime carnival, spooky story teller, and much more. Friday, Oct. 31 Countryside families get your costumes ready and head to the Children's Halloween Party. Children can show off their costumes during the costume parade, take in some family entertainment and fill their trick or treat bags. The party offers a safe environment for children to enjoy the Halloween festivities. The event is open to all Countryside residents and is held at the Holiday Inn William Tell, 6201 Joliet Road, in Countryside. (click for map/directions)

Friday, Nov. 28 It's time to light up Countryside for the holidays. Bundle up and join the Mayor and City Council as they light the tree in Memorial Park to begin the holiday celebration. Welcome Santa as he arrives on a fire truck and join the carolers in holiday music. The event is held at Memorial Park at Plainfield Road and 55th Street in Countryside. (click for map/directions)

Saturday, Dec. 6: 10:45 - Noon Santa knows where the good kids live - Countryside! Visit with St. Nick at the annual Children's Christmas Party. The party is a great place to get in the spirit and enjoy time with family, friends and neighbors. Entertainment and refreshments are just part of this fun-filled family event. The event is open to all Countryside residents and is held at Park Place of Countryside, 6240 W. Joliet Road, in Countryside. (click for map/directions)
