Getting It Done!

COUNTRYSIDE, Ill. - Countryside has a vision for its future and a new committee has been formed to help them reach its goal.

The City of Countryside recently formed an Economic Development Committee chaired by Alderman Sean McDermott. Other members of the committee include Mayor Robert Conrad, Alderman Karen Michalczyk, Alderman Michael Smetana, Community Development Director Dudley Onderdonk and Assistant City Administrator Sharon Peterson. The committee will be charged with reviewing development projects and making recommendations to the City Council.

"We have a lot of exciting opportunities in the City and we want to be sure we maximize our prospects. We want to be proactive in the planning of our City," Conrad said. "This committee can help the City focus on achieving our goals in relation to economic development. Our City Council has a vision for the future and we want to move ahead quickly and strategically."

The committee coincides with the efforts of the City's redevelopment pursuits. The City recently received proposals for a marketing assessment and redevelopment strategy for the commercial corridor. It also has sent out a request for proposals for 5631 LaGrange Road, property owned by the City which it is aggressively marketing. Countryside also will be marketing the former fire station property at 5745 LaGrange Road. It is actively seeking to find purchasers who will be large sales tax generators that will serve the City's needs.

Countryside is not only marketing properties with new development signs on the available property but also is welcoming new and expanding businesses with "Getting It Done" signs throughout the City.

The City also added a development page to its gocountryside.net Web site. The page lists available properties in the City for sale and lease, development news in the City and economic incentives. More information is available by visiting gocountryside.net/development.

The Economic Development Committee will meet monthly and will provide all recommendations to the City Council for approval.
